OPP Report:
Sioux Lookout OPP remind drivers of safe driving practices
Members of the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be patrolling Sioux Lookout area roadways to ensure that drivers are obeying the speed limits and driving according to road conditions.
At this time, the OPP would like to remind motorists that Drayton Road, Sturgeon River Road, Sturgeon Meadows, and Abram Lake Road are all Class 5 roadways with posted speed limits of 50 km/hr. Police also want to remind drivers that speeding is dangerous and could cause your licence to be suspended and vehicle to be impounded.
Motorists are also reminded that the spring weather brings other users to the roadway, including motorcycles, cyclists, joggers, and horses. Children will soon be riding their bikes to school, and drivers need to be extra cautious in the areas around Sacred Heart, Sioux Mountain, and Sioux North schools. Adjust your driving, pay attention, and be prepared to stop for children and pedestrians.
OPP officers will be setting their sights on speeding and all other forms of aggressive driving in upcoming initiatives. Aggressive driving include; following too closely, unsafe passing and lane changes, failing to yield right-of-way, road rage and other dangerous, high-risk driving behaviours.
The public is encouraged to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-800-310-1122 whenever suspecting that a driver is operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner.
