Orange Shirt Day BBQ and round dance
Sioux Lookout’s Violence Action & Awareness Committee (VAAC) hosted an Orange Shirt Day BBQ and Round Dance at Farlinger Park (town beach) at noon on September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
“It’s a one hour event. We’re providing a free barbeque for everybody in honour of Orange Shirt Day,” explained Geneva Sainnawap, Executive Director for Ah-shawah-bin Victim Support Service.
“It’s a small gathering to do a round dance and a couple songs in honour of the children,” she added.
Sunset Women’s Aboriginal Circle (SWAC) Elder Romaine Lyon led the round dance.
