A competitive showing from the Sioux Lookout Squash Club at the 33rd LaPlace Rendezvous Squash Open Tournament in Fort Frances on January 3-5, 2020. Three (3) squash members attended; Gerson Agustin, Adam Clark and first time Junior “A” Division Alex Agustin.
In the Junior A Division, Alex Agustin played exceptionally well considering that this was his first event. In his first match he won 3-0. Second match he lost 3-2, but with good plays and not giving up he was able to extend his match to game five after being down 2-0; and his final match he lost 3-0. Alex was able to earn 5 points overall, only missing out by one point to advance.
In the Men’s A Open Division, Adam Clark played three tough matches. Adam lost his first match 3-1; second match he lost 3-2 against a very solid player from Thunder Bay who went on to capture the Men’s A Open Championship on Sunday. Adam’s last match proved to be epic, defeating the legendary Bob Shine from Thunder Bay 3-0 who has won this event multiple times.
In the Men’s A Division, Gerson Agustin went undefeated during round robin play, earning him a berth into the Championship match on Sunday. The Championship match was very competitive, trading quality winning shots from both players. However, his opponent from Winnipeg was relentless in attacking and controlling the play and eventually defeated Gerson 3-1.
The next event for the Sioux Lookout Squash Club will be in Thunder Bay on March 27-29, 2020.
