Painted rocks helping local veterans

A local family and school class have painted some very special Remembrance Day themed rocks to support local veterans.
The McCord family, as well as Ms. Bowyer’s Grade 6,7,8 French Immersion class at Sacred Heart School have painted over 100 rocks featuring a poppy design, which people can purchase for a donation.
One hundred percent of donations raised through the sale of the rocks will go to the Sioux Lookout Legion’s poppy fund.
“This is our third year doing this,” Nancy McCord shared. “We’ve raised over $4000 over the last two years.”
The McCord’s were at Fresh Market Foods last Saturday and Giant Tiger last Sunday selling the rocks.
Anyone who missed them there can purchase a rock by messaging Nancy McCord on Facebook.
McCord said that the Remembrance Day themed rocks can also be picked up at Drayton Cash & Carry or The Red Brick Cafe this week. A donation box will be available.
The McCords will also try to do another pop-up sale this week and ask people to watch Facebook for an update.
“Cool fact,” McCord concluded, “Our first rock sold this year is on its way to Korea to be placed on a Korean Veteran’s grave.”
