Pic of the Past
A black and white photograph of Queen Elizabeth standing on a stage that has been decked out in Union Jack flags. The photograph was taken on June 4th, 1939, when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited Sioux Lookout. It was estimated that over seven thousand people flocked to Sioux Lookout to witness the twenty minute long visit. Some people camped out for eight hours in advance of their majesties arrival in order to procure choice spots. During their brief visit, the royal couple were introduced to several notable citizens and were given gifts such as gold specimens found in the area. The local school children sang them “O Canada,” which was played again after by a one hundred and twenty six piece massed band.
