Pioneer Stories:
Frank & Ethel Crowley
Frank was born in Menesha, Wisconsin, in January 1893. He arrived in Sioux Lookout in 1912 and worked on the Grand Trunk Pacific. He left after a few months for points where work was more plentiful.
In 1937 Frank returned to Sioux and purchased the Meadwell home on Wellington Street. He and Ethel raised their family there. There were four girls - Dorothy, Catherine, June and Frances - and a boy, Alan. Two of the daughters remained in Sioux Lookout; Frances McIver married to Aubrey McIver and June Wallace married to Arnold Wallace. Some of their descendants live on in Sioux Lookout today.
The Crowleys occupied their home until 1974. Frank lived there alone for three years after Ethel died.
Frank was a Mason; a member of Khartum Temple, Winnipeg and also of the Sioux Shrine Club. He served for 11 years on council and was proud of the fact the sewer and water were installed and the new Hillcrest Cemetery was started during his time in office.
