Poppies painted on rocks supporting local veterans

Having raised $1705 last year for the Sioux Lookout Legion’s Poppy Campaign, the McCord family of Sioux Lookout are once again rolling up their sleeves to support local veterans.
The family of five have spent hours lovingly painting poppies on more than 100 rocks they collected. They will be selling the painted rocks for a donation on Tuesday and Friday at Fresh Market Foods from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. All donations will go to the Legion’s Poppy Campaign.
Nancy McCord shared, “Last year, the veterans couldn’t go sell the poppies because of COVID, so that got us trying to think outside the box, and since we felt it was a success, we thought we would do it again this year.”
Donovan McCord, aged 9, said, “I am pretty excited and happy that we’re doing this because I like helping out local communities and it just kind of does a small impact on the world, but it so helps.”
Christopher McCord, aged 11, said, “It makes me proud,” adding that it makes him happy to help others.
Ethan McCord, aged 12, shared, “I think it’s helping veterans keep going and also just remembering who fought for us.”
