Question of the week:
The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre is hosting third-year Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) students. The NOSM students were asked what they are looking forward to during their time in Sioux Lookout.

Being from a small town, this placement is going to be a nice break from living in the city for school! I'm also very excited to work with the staff at the hospital and both clinics. Sioux Lookout has a reputation for being a great model of how to practice socially accountable, rural medicine. After graduation, I'm hoping to stay in the north to do full-scope family practice so this is an awesome opportunity.

I am looking forward to learning medicine in a beautiful rural community surrounded by lakes. I am excited to work with excellent preceptors and engage in the Sioux Lookout community. By the end of this academic year, I hope to have developed further competency in medicine and confidence in my clinical skills.

I have enjoyed past experiences living in small tight knit communities, so I look forward to my time in Sioux Lookout and getting to know the community. I am excited for the opportunity to learn rural medicine and gain an appreciation for the challenges that come with accessing healthcare services in the north. In my spare time I look forward to getting outdoors and exploring the local trails.

I’m excited to be back in Sioux Lookout and learning to practice rural medicine in the North. I look forward to reacquainting myself with friends and family, meeting new colleagues and people of Sioux Lookout. In any spare time I may have, I look forward to visiting and throwing out a fish line in the local lakes. I hope to work in the area upon completion of medical school.
