Renovation work at the Sioux Lookout Recreation Centre will take a bit longer than first anticipated to complete.
The Municipality of Sioux Lookout had informed The Bulletin in early July that renovation work was on schedule to be completed in time for the facility to re-open on August. 9.
The Municipality of Sioux Lookout informed in an Aug. 6 media release that, “Due to delays with contractors and suppliers, we have made the difficult decision to remain closed until Friday, August 23, 2024.” The facility has been closed to the public since June 10 to allow the renovations to be completed.
The Municipality informed, “We aim to have membership packages available for pickup by new and existing members on Monday August 12, 2024. These packages will provide details about the new procedures for accessing the facility, as well as other important information on how to use our amenities. Members are welcome to stop in any time after August 12th, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to pick up their membership package and help expedite their first visit back to our facility when it re-opens.”
The Municipality informed that some of the major changes guests to the facility will see when it reopens include:
- New flooring in the cardio room, weight room, and gymnasium
- New padding on gymnasium walls
- Renovations and tile work in the men’s change room
- Fresh paint throughout the gym, weight room, and cardio room
- Installation of door access controllers throughout the building
The Municipality also shared that some of the new equipment guests will find when the Recreation Centre re-opens include:
- Three New Treadmills
- New Leg Press/Cal Raise Machine
- Dual Leg Extension/Side Leg Curl Machine
- Complete Kettlebell Sets and stands
- New stretching mats
- Additional Weight Plates
- Deadlift Deadener Rubber Deadlift Bumpers
The estimated cost of the new additions is $28,250.
“We hope our members will enjoy all the new amenities and improvements to the facility.
“The Municipality of Sioux Lookout sincerely apologizes for the additional delays, due to factors beyond our control, and looks forward to welcoming everyone back later this month,” the Municipality stated.
