Report from Parliament Hill:
Advocating for constituents
Eric Melillo - MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents,
Last week, I spent time at the Kenora office before checking in on residents of Red Lake, Ear Falls, and Machin. It was nice to travel around the riding again before heading to Ottawa for our first in-person Caucus meeting since electing our new leader.
I’ve been having productive discussions with new Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole about issues facing northwestern Ontario. He is taking a keen interest in our region, and I look forward to working with him to fight for policies that will benefit our communities.
Advocating for
constituents
I currently have two parliamentary petitions open for signature.
The first calls on the government to provide financial aid for tourism operators affected by COVID-19.
The tourism industry is a huge economic contributor to northern Ontario, but local operators have been hit hard by this pandemic and the ongoing border closure. The Liberal government’s flawed financial programs have not been sufficient to help them stay afloat, and they will need more support if they’re going to weather this once-in-a-generation crisis.
You can sign my petition for tourism support at ericmelillomp.ca/petition1. It closes for signatures on November 11th.
The second petition calls for braille or tactile symbols to be added to consumer product warning labels.
Accidental misuse of hazardous household products is a safety risk and barrier to independence for the visually impaired, and this common-sense solution would make a big different in the lives of 1.5 million Canadians and their families.
You can sign it at ericmelillomp.ca/petition2 until October 24th.
