Report From Parliament Hill:
Dear Constituents
Eric Melillo - MP, Kenora Riding
I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe as we move into fall.
I’d like to extend my best wishes to all the students who are going back to school this month, whether in-person or online. It will certainly be a learning process as everyone adjusts to the current normal, dealing with social distancing in classroom and the challenges that come with online learning (especially in our region), but I’m confident you all will make the best of this experience.
Parliament, of course, is also resuming this September.
To prepare for the upcoming session, the Conservative Party’s Ontario Caucus held a retreat in Simcoe County last week, where we discussed our plans to hold the Liberal government to account and fight for results for Ontario. I also appreciated the chance to visit organizations like Gwillimdale Farms, concrete infrastructure manufacturer Decast, Beattie’s Distillery, and the Barrie Gun Range.
This week, the Liberal government will be delivering their Speech from the Throne, setting out their priorities going forward.
I sincerely hope the Liberal government will present a plan to recover from this crisis and get our economy – and our country – moving again. I also urge the government to finally prioritize the North, and take long-awaited action on issues like food security, internet access, the housing crisis, and the urgent need for investments in infrastructure.
As the Conservative Opposition’s Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs, I’ll be watching to see if the Liberal government honours the promises they’ve made to the North, and holding them to account if they fall short. Northern Canada has been an afterthought for too long – I want us to be at the top of the agenda.
As always, if there is anything my office can assist you with, or if you would like to arrange a meeting, please do not hesitate to call me at 807-468-2170 (Kenora) or 807-223-2182 (Dryden) or contact me by email at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Eric Melillo
Member of Parliament – Kenora riding
