Report From Parliament Hill:
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents,
It has been a challenging week for our region, as many have been impacted by the recent flooding. I’d like to thank all the community leaders, volunteers and crews who are working to keep our communities safe and restore transportation routes.
On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to rise in the House of Commons to speak about the state of emergencies in our region to ensure all Members of Parliament were briefed on the situation. I have also spoken to the Minister of Emergency Preparedness to keep him updated on the issue and he has assured me that the federal government is ready to step in and provide assistance when they are called on.
Bill C-11
Over the past few weeks, I have heard from many of you about concerns surronding Bill C-11 which was previously known as Bill C-10. On Wednesday evening, I participated in the Bill C-11 debate where I was able to relay those concerns to the government. I hope alongside my colleagues we’ll be able to introduce meaningful amendments to Bill C-11 that will increase the transparency of the Bill, along with guarantee that user-generated content will not be regulated.
Local Tourism
On May 6th I attended the Kenora District Camp Owners General Meeting. I was pleased to be able to offer an update on our Party’s efforts to support the crucial tourism sector and receive feedback directly from outfitters. Our tourism sector has had a difficult few years, and it is well past time that the government step up and support one of the most prosperous industries in the country.
My colleagues and I are fighting for travel restrictions to be dropped and for the ArriveCan app requirement to be scrapped. As the rest of the world drops travel restrictions, Canada should follow suit and allow people to travel to visit family and ensure international tourists can visit our beautiful region once again.

For those itching to get back out on the links, there's some good news out of the Sioux Lookout Golf and Curling Club. The club is on track to reopen the golf course for the May 23 long weekend, weather permitting..
