Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
It has been a busy week in Ottawa. The House of Commons elected MP Greg Fergus as Speaker. I congratulated him on his election, and I look forward to working with him. He is the first black Canadian to become Speaker.
Axe the tax
Recently, the House of Commons was focused on a Conservative motion to repeal both carbon taxes. After eight years of this Liberal government, Canadians have seen their lives become more unaffordable thanks to the inflationary carbon tax. If that wasn’t bad enough, now the Liberals are bringing in a second hidden carbon tax to further hike the price of gas, heat and groceries.
According to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, this second carbon tax will cost the average Canadian household an extra $573 per year without any rebate, with families in some provinces facing costs as high as $1,157. This means the combined carbon taxes will cost Canadian families up to $4000 each year.
The combined impact of the two carbon taxes will be an extra 61 cents for every litre of gasoline. The first carbon tax will cost 37 cents per litre, the second carbon tax 17 cents per litre, and with HST applied to the carbon taxes included, it will all add up to 61 cents per litre.
The PBO also confirms that this tax will shrink our economy. The first carbon tax did not succeed in reducing emissions, and this second one will not either. The Liberals have not hit a single climate target since they brought in their carbon tax.
Liberal Members of Parliament allege they are not in favour of the carbon taxes but have supported carbon tax measures 23 times since 2015.
Conservatives will axe these taxes to bring home lower prices for gas, groceries, and home heating.

Judging by the rapid growth of his tail feathers, I'd say ol' Hobo must have very recently donated his tail to a predator when I first saw him last weekend...
