Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
I was honoured to meet with representatives from The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. Conservatives support Israel’s right to defend itself from horrific terrorist attacks by Hamas and ensure the safety of its citizens. During our meeting, we discussed ways to combat antisemitism and hate of all kinds in Canada and abroad. It is vital that all levels of government ensure adequate security and protective measures are in place to protect places of worship across the country.
I also had the pleasure to welcome Red Lake Mayor Fred Mota and KDSB Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall to Ottawa. While they were here, Pierre Poilievre and I met with them to discuss plans to develop more housing in the region.
I ended the week speaking with students at Red Lake District High School civics class to talk about the role of Parliament.
Calling for Balanced Budgets
This week, Conservatives put forward a motion that calls on the NDP-Liberal government to get back to balanced budgets. Justin Trudeau has added more debt than all other Prime Ministers combined and has no plan to control his deficits. Canada’s federal debt for the next fiscal year is projected to reach $1.22 trillion. That is nearly $81,000 per household. This is unsustainable.
Further, the inflationary deficits are driving up the cost of the goods we buy and the interest we pay. Housing costs have doubled, and we are seeing a spike in interest rates that could result in a disaster for struggling Canadians already saddled with massive mortgages. After 8 years of this government, life costs more and work doesn’t pay.
Unfortunately, the NDP-Liberal government rejected our motion. Only Conservatives will bring home powerful paycheques for workers by ending the wasteful spending, balancing the budget, and bringing home lower prices and interest rates for Canadians.
