Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
The House of Commons was focused on a Conservative motion calling on the Senate to immediately pass Conservative Bill C-234, which has already passed the House of Commons and is awaiting approval in the Senate. This bill will remove the carbon tax for farmers and help lower the cost of groceries—which have been skyrocketing under this NDP-Liberal government.
While Conservative Senators are working to get this passed as quickly as possible, Trudeau-appointed Senators have been doing everything they can to block this important measure from becoming law. Given the cost of living crisis that is facing Canadians, it is shocking to see the government continue with this punishing tax that will only drive up the cost of grain drying, barn heating, and other farm operations further. Conservatives know when you tax the farmers who grow the food you are also taxing all people who buy the food.
Canadians need relief from the rising cost of living but have already been left out in the cold by the NDP-Liberal government. Now, the Liberals teamed up with the separatist Bloc Québécois to defeat our common sense motion. Despite this setback, I remain confident the Senate will defy the Prime Minister’s wishes and pass bill C-234.
While the current government wants to quadruple the tax, a Conservative government will axe the tax for good to bring home lower prices for farmers and all Canadians.
