Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear Constituents
As the holiday season approaches, I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I’m looking forward to spending some time back home with family, and I hope everyone across the region is able to spend quality time with their loved ones.
Conclusion of Fall Session
Parliament has now adjourned until the new year. Over the fall session, our Conservative team was hard at work holding the NDP-Liberal government accountable to Canadians. We brought forward many proposals to lower the cost of living. We called on the government to axe the carbon tax that will cost residents 61 cents/L at the pump and also raise the price of groceries and home heating. We stood against the government’s inflationary spending and demanded a plan to get back to balanced budgets. Unfortunately, the NDP and Liberals voted against each motion we put forward. Instead, they are planning to quadruple the carbon tax and add even more debt.
We also forced 134 confidence votes in the House of Commons to hold the government accountable for their decisions on policies that have caused inflation to rise, doubled housing costs, and have left more than half of Canadians $200 or less away from not being able to pay bills.
This was an opportunity for the opposition parties to declare non-confidence in the government. Unsurprisingly, the NDP propped up the Liberals every time.
Conservatives will continue to stand up to the NDP-Liberal government and hold them accountable for making life unaffordable for Canadians. Only a Conservative government will axe the carbon tax, stop inflationary spending, and bring home lower prices.
