REPORT FROM PARLIAMENT HILL: Dear Constituents

Dear Constituents,

Wishing everyone who celebrates a peaceful and blessed Easter weekend.

Recovering our Economy

As our neighbours to the South are gradually returning to normal, Canadians are facing yet another lockdown.

The Liberal government has failed to procure and distribute vaccines across the country, and Canada is falling behind as a result. They’ve also failed to provide answers to Canadians who want to know when they can get their lives back, from seniors who want to see their grandchildren again, students who want to return to school, to small business owners who want to re-open their doors.

In the Kenora riding, many local businesses rely on tourists from the United States, who (in normal times) shop at our stores, eat in our restaurants, and patronize our tourist lodges. Many of our regular visitors from the U.S. have already been vaccinated, and tourism operators have plans to safely host them. But we’ve had no answers from the government on whether fully-vaccinated tourists will be allowed to cross the border this summer.

This uncertainty is having real effects on people’s lives and livelihoods, and we’ve seen the dire consequences of despair among our most vulnerable.

Enough is enough. Canada needs a real, data-driven plan to safely re-open.

Standing up to the Chinese Communist Party

On March 27th, the Chinese Communist Regime announced sanctions against my Conservative colleague Michael Chong, in retaliation for his criticism of their human rights violations.

No sanctions were announced against Liberal Cabinet members, who abstained from a vote condemning the CCP’s genocide against the Uyghurs.

The Conservative Party will not be intimidated by this dictatorial regime that is committing genocide, supressing dissidents, and arbitrarily detaining Canadians. I’m proud of our efforts to stand up for human rights at home and abroad – and I’m proud of MP Michael Chong for refusing to be silenced.

Accountability in Government

The Liberal government hit a new low in their campaign to avoid accountability this week.

As part of their investigation into the WE Scandal, the Ethics Committee requested testimony from a senior Trudeau staffer who had been involved in discussions with WE in May. Instead, the government sent their House Leader Pablo Rodriguez, a Liberal MP who was not involved in the deal and wasn’t able to answer many of the Committee’s questions.

The next day, the Liberals blocked another staffer who was involved in the WE deal from testifying. This is a slap in the face to Canadians who want to know the truth.

Conservatives will bring ethics and accountability back to Parliament, by passing the toughest ethics laws in Canadian history.

Working for You

Prior to the province-wide shutdown, I took the opportunity to spend time with constituents in Kenora and Dryden, before meeting with community leaders in Pickle Lake and Mishkeegogamang First Nation. Over the next few weeks, I look forward to connecting with constituents virtually and over the phone as often as possible.
