Sacred Heart School celebrated the class of 2022 on the evening of June 22.
The graduating ceremony for the Grade 8 graduates included a mass, presentation of diplomas and awards, a valedictory address and a special slide show of the class of 2022.
Principal Emily Hamilton reflected, “Graduation Day! As we reflect on this big milestone, I’d like to acknowledge the love and support in this room. This love and support has ultimately brought us here today in celebration. I’d like to start by thanking our families. From that first moment you walked your little one to kindergarten to now… thank you for your partnership along the way and trusting us with your children’s education.”
Addressing the graduates she said, “Big congratulations to the graduating class of 2022! From a Sacred Heart Phoenix to a Sioux North Warrior, you’ve got this. Grads, as you move onto high school, know that you have people here that deeply care about you. We just know you’ll do great things. We will continue to cheer you on well after graduation.”
Grade 8 graduate Samurai Sakamoto said of graduating, “Relived. It’s kind of stressful.”
An award winner during the ceremony, Sakamoto said he worked hard this school year.
Grade 8 graduate Tessa Shurvell said of graduating, “It feels like it’s really paid off.”
She was grateful to be able to have an in-person graduation ceremony, “It’s the big celebration before high school. Very exciting.”
Asked about learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, Shurvell said, “The switch between in school and online was very hard because you had to put in extra time. It’s hard to learn math from a computer. Being able to come back to school to learn and work hard if feels like now at grad, after all this stress of having to learn online and in school, has really paid off.”
