Samajam performance a hit with kids and their parents

Children and their parents didn’t just take in last Thursday’s Kids Kaleidoscope Entertainment Series presentation… they became the stars of the show.

Martin Ruel and Cheikh Anta Faye of Samajam provided audience members with tambourines, drum sticks and music tubes, enthusiastically leading the audience in musical rhythms, musical theory, and percussions and beats from several countries.

Approximately 100 people attended Samajam’s performance at Sioux North High School on Jan. 23.

Kids Kaleidoscope Entertainment Series committee member Nancy McCord said it was great to see so many people in attendance, “Word is getting out about the quality of the performances we have been able to bring to Sioux Lookout. Our committee puts in a lot of effort to bring in fun, interactive performances that we feel the community will enjoy. This performance was one of our best yet! As I looked around the room I saw smiles on everyone's faces.”

She added, “The audience made up 80 per cent of the performance, and did they ever perform. Everyone was given instruments to play along with the performers. Everyone was participating and having a lot of fun doing so! Some of the parents on the way out commented to me that they just might have enjoyed the show as much as or even more than their children! Samajam is definitely a group we would look at bringing back to our community again! They were a lot of fun!”

“The audience responded very well,” Ruel shared after the show. “It’s such a pleasure to see the relationship between the parents and their kids throughout the show… I really liked the spirit of the crowd tonight!”
