Significant donation made to MRI campaign by Skip to Equip Committee
Members of the Skip to Equip Committee were at the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) on Dec. 16 to donate the funds raised from the 13th Annual Sioux Lookout Home Hardware Skip to Equip Classic to the SLMHC Foundation
The fundraising ladies curling bonspiel, which ran from Nov. 8 – 10, raised $160,000 this year, the event’s highest single year total to date.
Skip to Equip Committee Chair Kelli-Dawn Baker said, “The MRI, I think it’s crucial for Sioux Lookout and all of our surrounding northern communities. It’s a piece of equipment that is essential to our health services in order to bring in doctors and nurses and caregivers.”
Commenting on this year’s total raised, she shared, “$160,000 is unbelievable… I’m so proud of the community and all of our ladies that work so hard for this event. It just goes to show that we can all pull together for a common cause.”
Melissa Slade, Donor Relations/Operations Coordinator, SLMHC Foundation shared, “On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for the infinite amounts of hard work and dedication that this committee of ladies continues to show for local healthcare initiatives. The 2024 Home Hardware Skip to Equip event was a shining example of community coming together from near and far for a common goal. We are so thankful that the unprecedented amount raised during this year’s event is being generously donated toward our campaign to bring MRI Services to Sioux Lookout for NW Ontario residents to access.”
Planning for the 14th annual Skip to Equip Classic will start in February.
