Sioux Lookout artist leads fellow seniors in brightening the downtown

Sioux Lookout residents and visitors to town may have noticed a new design painted upon the Front Street facing windows of the Sioux Area Seniors Activity Centre.
Charron Sippola, a member of the seniors activity centre, shared her inspiration for the design that she, and a few helpers, painted, “Well, it was too early for fall, and we’re out of summer, so I thought, well, sunflowers are always fun, and then my granddaughter got a card from her teachers in June that had advice from a sunflower, and I thought wow! This is cool. Sunflowers are going to be the next thing”
Sippola has come up with designs to recognize Canada Day and the Blueberry Festival already this year and said she plans to update the windows regularly.
“It started out with doing a Christmas one or doing something for Blueberry, but it just kind of blossomed into something I like doing,” she shared, adding she already has a Halloween/fall design in mind.
Sippola, an avid painter, added, “It’s just something to brighten up the street… It’s for the seniors too, but it’s also for the community.”
Sippola said people can look forward to a few new designs, “With me being here all winter now, we’re not going away, I’ve got the October one and November will be Thanksgiving and then it’s Christmas.”
