Sioux Lookout Bombers to face Red Lake Miners in round 1 of the 2025 Bill Salonen Cup Playoffs

The Superior International Junior Hockey League’s (SIJHL) regular season has concluded and the post season has arrived.
The Sioux Lookout Bombers finished the regular season on the road with games against the Red Lake Miners on March 14 and 15 at the Cochenour Arena.
The Bombers won the March 14 match against the Miners 4-1.
The Bombers scored one in the first period and three in the second period to take a 4-0 lead.
Goals came from Owen Riffel, Jonah Smith, Owen Cotter, and Michael Casey.
Ryan Heuser scored for the Miners at 15:36 in the third period, preventing a shutout.
Final score was Sioux Lookout Bombers 4, Red Lake Miners 1.
The Miners turned the tables on the Bombers the following night, handing the Bombers a 4-2 loss.
The Miners got out to an early lead scoring twice in the first period.
Quinn Szpak added a third goal for the Miners just over three minutes into the second period.
Brodie Wood got the Sioux Lookout Bombers on the scoreboard with a goal at 12:07.
Owen Cotter scored for the Bombers 50 seconds into the third period to bring the score to 3-2 in favour of the Miners. Bradyn Rowsell scored for the Miners at 10:50 to make the score 4-2 Miners, which ended up being the final score for the match.
The Bombers finished the regular season in 4th place, three points behind the 3rd place Thunder Bay North Stars. The Kam River Fighting Walleye finished 2nd with 73 points. The Dryden GM Ice Dogs were the regular season champs, finishing in 1st place with 77 points.
The Sioux Lookout Bombers will face the Red Lake Miners in the first round of the 2025 Bill Salonen Cup Playoffs as the Bombers look to repeat as league champions.
Having secured home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, the Bombers will start their championship defense at the Hangar with Game 1 set for Friday evening and Game 2 set for Saturday evening. Puck drop both nights is 7:00 p.m.
