Sioux Lookout OPP and Fresh Market Foods are partnering together to recognize youth for safe bicycle riding skills as well as responsible and caring behavior through their Positive Ticket program.
Sioux Lookout OPP officers will be on patrol this summer and if they observe youth doing these things, they will thank them with a special certificate.
“We have been partnering with the OPP in the Positive Ticketing Program for about four years now. In past years, kids could come in for a free Jumbo Freezie. This year we are excited to offer them either a small slushie or small soft serve,” shared Fresh Market Foods Human Resources Manager Liz Ward.
“The kids are always very proud to present their 'ticket'. We hope to see many smiling faces coming in over the summer for their well-deserved reward,” she added.
Youth will also receive an OPP coloring book.
“Although the tickets are primarily issued to youth demonstrating safe bicycle riding skills, officers may also award a "Positive Ticket" for a number of other responsible or caring behaviours. These may include youth maintaining social distancing, deterring crime, helping others in need, or otherwise demonstrating leadership and/or community pride,” a Sioux Lookout OPP news release informed.
“The intention of the positive ticketing program is to offer officers a method of thanking youth for their safe and community-minded behaviours. The program serves to initiate relationships between youth, their communities and local businesses, to foster a new generation of civic-minded citizens. Officers are looking forward to seeing youth safely out and about in the community this summer,” the release concluded.
