Sioux Lookout organizations receiving ‘Reaching Home’ funding

Two organizations in Sioux Lookout will benefit from ‘Reaching Home’ funding announced by the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) at its March board meeting.
KDSB shared that, “The ‘Reaching Home’ program is a Federally funded program that supports communities across Canada in preventing and reducing homelessness using a coordinated, housing-focused, and data-driven approach.”
“In January, the KDSB, in partnership with its Community Advisory Board (CAB), invited organizations operating in the District of Kenora to submit funding applications for consideration through a call for proposals. The ‘Reaching Home’ program directly funds communities to address their specific and unique homelessness needs. Proposals are selected based on projects that will positively impact the homelessness and homelessness prevention system,” KDSB informed.
In total, the KDSB, through ‘Reaching Home’, will provide funding to six programs throughout the District for 2024-2026:
•    Nahnahda-Wee-ee-Waywin, Sioux Lookout: Supportive Housing - $550,000
•    New Starts for Women Inc. Ten Sisters, Red Lake: Child and Youth Worker - $145,144
•    Saakaate House, Kenora: Welcome Home - $266,022
•    Canadian Mental Health Association-Kenora Branch: Rental Supplement Program & Peer Support - $75,000
•    Sioux Lookout Food Bank: Food Security - $49,200
•    Kenora Association for Community Living: Home of My Own Fit Up - $64,834
“Reaching Home is a vital Federal program that supports the goals of the National Housing Strategy, which acknowledges that safe and affordable housing is the cornerstone of every thriving community. Through its 2024-26 investment, we can provide tenant support services within supportive housing, rental supplements that allow people to remain in their homes, peer support to connect individuals with essential services, increasing access to appropriate, safe, and affordable housing options, and support transitional housing programming for those who have experienced domestic violence. Reaching Home allows for tailored, frontline supports and programming to take place that have an immense positive impact on those in need,” says Henry Wall, Chief Administrative Officer, KDSB.
The six funded projects will run from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026.
