Sioux Lookout remembers
The Edwin Switzer Memorial, Branch 78, Royal Canadian Legion, commemorated Remembrance Day on Thursday, November 11 with a full indoor service in Sioux Lookout.
The service included reading The Act of Remembrance, the laying of wreaths, two minutes of silence and the singing of O Canada, followed by a slideshow presentation honouring local veterans.
Legion President Kirk Drew was pleased with how the service went, commenting. “We had a pretty good turnout for the conditions that were out there plus COVID, so we were happy with that.”
Several monetary donations were made to support the Legion after the ceremony. As Drew explained, “The Ladies Auxiliary gave us a $5000 cheque, the McCord Family and their children gave us $1400 that they raised through rock painting, and then Doug Switzer gave us $1000 as his donation on behalf of his father.” Drew added “A lot of people stayed and had a beef on a bun, people stayed around until about 2 o’clock or so and people enjoyed it; had a chance to talk to a lot of different friends I haven’t seen for a while.”
