Sioux Lookout’s Green Team working to keep community clean

Members of Sioux Lookout’s Green Team met at Tim Horton’s on April 22, Earth Day.
“The Green Team is an ad-hoc committee of the Municipal Environment Committee. These are community-minded citizens with a strong commitment to volunteerism, who the Environment Committee wanted to bring together to form a “Green Team” so that we can all collaborate more effectively on cleaning up the litter around town, and to share supplies and best practices,” shared Councillor Reece Van Breda, who along with Councillor Joyce Timpson, are both council representatives on the Municipal Environment Committee.
“We are appreciative of the support of our local Tim Horton’s which helped the Green Team kick off its first day of clean-up (as a Team) on Earth Day. Tim Horton’s provided bags and gloves, and coffee and donuts that were designed for Earth Day,” Van Breda said.
“The Green Team aims to bring together various stakeholders from the community who are passionate about the litter problem that we have in Sioux Lookout. We will collaborate on cleaning up the litter around town and share supplies and best practices,” Van Breda added.
Anyone who would like to become a member of the Green Team and help make Sioux Lookout a cleaner place for everyone is encouraged to contact Van Breda or Timpson.

While many area lakes are still frozen over, this section of Sturgeon River near Sioux Lookout along Highway 642 is ice free, a sign that spring truly has arrived.
