Sioux North High School celebrates athletes, athletic achievements

Students, staff, and family members packed the Sioux North High School (SNHS) cafetorium on June 11 to celebrate and honour individual and team accomplishments from the school’s first athletic season under the SNHS name.
During the awards ceremony, SNHS athletic director Jason MacMillan shared that the athletes proved, throughout the year, that they truly embody the characteristics of warriors.
“The first year under the Sioux North High School name came with many successes. Gold in junior boys’ volleyball, junior boys’ basketball and boy’s hockey to name a few with representation for OFSAA in cross country (our first ever under Sioux North), wrestling, boy’s hockey and badminton. Even with all these team and individual successes, what stood out the most was the sportsmanship, pride and resiliency as our athletes put all the distractions aside and simply competed. They competed because it is what they have always done and what they love to do. Truly exhibiting the characteristics of true warriors and our school could not be prouder of you all,” said MacMillan.
“It’s one thing to be called Sioux North, but it’s hard transitioning in to a new building and the anticipation of that happening. Our athletes certainly were resilient throughout, even with all the excitement, and truly were warriors throughout the athletic season,” he added.
Senior Girls Athlete of the Year award winner Lizzy Anderson shared that it felt great to create history during the first year as SNHS, and she hopes that the school can continue to make history.
“I find it an honour. It makes me feel proud of our school and all our success. Hopefully our students can continue to make history here,” Anderson concluded.
