SLAAMB receives major award
The Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board (SLAAMB) was recognized with the Project Of The Year Award at the annual Ontario First Nations Economic Developers Association (OFNEDA) Conference in Ottawa, which ran from September 16-19.
The award recognizes SLAAMB’s five-year Carpentry Apprenticeship Training program and building project in Hudson. The eight apprentices under three Red Seal Carpenters have built six buildings at SLAAMB’s training site in Hudson.
“The overall goal of the program is to have these young people from the northern communities get their CFQ designations through writing the provincial exam. A great win for all,” stated SLAAMB Project Manager Ziggy Beardy, who is pictured (right) receiving the award on behalf of SLAAMB.
