SLMHA presents year-end awards
Mike Lawrence - Staff Writer
The Sioux Lookout Minor Hockey Association (SLMHA) wrapped up the season with a series of hockey banquets over the week of April 4 through 8, with each division having its own evening to celebrate.
The schedule of banquets was Monday for the U7’s, Tuesday for U13, Wednesday for U11, and Thursday saw the evening divided between the U9’s, and U15/U18’s.
SLMHA President Grant Power had this to say about the year that was. “We had 194 kids in total, enrolled in Sioux Lookout Minor Hockey across all divisions. For the U18 group, most of the Sioux Warriors came over and played with us and created a AA team. We also had 36 kids in Midget, and next year we are planning on running a AA group for the U11, U13 and the U18 kids so that they can have a higher level of hockey.”
He continued, “We’d like to thank everybody for the support, and thank all the local businesses that have supported us over the years. We look forward to working with them in the future.”
Dale McGill, convener for the U13’s, noted “We had a good bunch of kids this year, it was fun to coach them. We worked a lot on skating and edge work. It was really nice to see them improving over the year.”
