With the 12th and final 50/50 draw of their current lottery license taking place on November 17, the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation is already looking ahead to next year.
The SLMHC Foundation has begun the process of applying for a new lottery license to run the draw again next year and is just waiting to hear back about their application.
So far this year the draw has raised a total of $572,500, and handed out a total of $282,250 in prizes. This has left $216,690 in net proceeds, after various licensing fees and expenditures, of which $200,000 has already been committed to equipment such as various scopes for the OR, the Magseed system for breast cancer surgery, and the electronic bicycle for cardiac stress testing.
The appeal of the SLMHC Foundation’s 50/50 Draw has proven to be far reaching. As Rita Demetzer, SLMHC Foundation Treasurer, explained, “Looking at locations, it would appear we are reaching pretty much every corner of Ontario and most of the other provinces (people from elsewhere have someone in Ontario buy tickets in their name).”
October’s winner of the draw, which took place October 13, was Kathy Hager of Kenora, who took home $10,050. Tickets for the November 17 draw can be purchased at
