Sandra Litwin, a Red Lake resident, was the lucky winner of the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) Foundation’s third monthly charity draw. The jackpot for the February draw reached $52,252, with the same amount generated for the hospital foundation.
SLMHC Foundation Treasurer Rita Demetzer said, “I think the word is getting out. We can see that the participation is increasing. It doubled from draw one to draw two and it’s still increased by a good amount. It certainly increased over 10 percent from draw two to draw three, so we are certainly turning in the right direction. We expect it to grow every month.”
With SLMHC unable to host two of its major annual fundraisers last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bearskin Airlines Charity Golf Tournament and the Bearskin Airlines Skip to Equip Curling Classic, the foundation initiated the 50/50 charity draw as an alternate means to fundraise.
Demetzer said, “All of the funds that are raised through the 50/50 draw will be used to purchase required equipment for the health centre.”
In the next five years, the Health Centre needs to replace all of its IV pumps (approximately 60); their CT scanner and their mammography unit. The approximate total cost of this equipment will be over $2.5 million,
