SMPS, SNHS, expected to be closed Jan. 15 as part of OSSTF one-day strike action

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) advised families of KPDSB students on Jan. 10 that all KPDSB schools would be closed to students on Wednesday, January 15.
In Sioux Lookout, Sioux Mountain Public School, Sioux North High School and the adult education site located in the old Queen Elizabeth District High School building would be impacted.
Joan Kantola, Interim Director of Education, shared in a notice to families, “The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) gave notice today (Jan. 10) that their members will participate in a one-day, full withdrawal of services (strike) affecting all KPDSB schools on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. OSSTF members in KPDSB schools include all secondary and adult education teachers, as well as elementary and secondary Education Assistants, office, clerical, library and occasional staff.
“All KPDSB schools (elementary and secondary) in all areas of the Board, as well as adult education sites in Dryden, Kenora and Sioux Lookout, will be CLOSED to students on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. Cooperative Education placements for secondary students will also be cancelled for the day.
“Childcares and EarlyON Centres in our schools will remain open on Wednesday, but before and after school programming will not be operating.
“Schools will be OPEN to students again on Thursday, January 16, 2020.”
