Snow sculpture contest underway!

A local resident and the Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce are partnering together to put on a snow sculpture building contest this week.
The contest began on Jan. 20 and will run to Jan. 30 at 4 p.m.
Justin Bottle, who goes by Justin Trout on social media, said of his inspiration for the contest, “They’ve done it out in Lac Seul. I work out there. I work with the pandemic team in Lac Seul. They were doing the same thing. So, I figured, why not do it in Sioux Lookout. I live in Sioux Lookout, might as well try to get the community involved as well.”
Chamber representative Christine Hoey said people can contact the Chamber with their name and address to register their snow sculpture for judging at 737-1937 or people can message Justin Trout on Facebook with the same information.
“He secured some donations for cash prizes, but the Chamber is also going to get some of their members to donate prizes so we can do a first, second and third prize for the sculptures,” Hoey said, adding, “I’m really excited that somebody has taken the initiative to put this on.”
“I can’t believe how much support I’ve got,” Bottle, a Lac Seul band member, said, adding, “I was bored and wanted to get out with my family and let everyone else get out their family as well and have some fun in the snow.”
“I’d like to wish everyone good luck and happy building,” Trout posted on Sioux Lookout & Area Events & Services.
Judging of snow sculptures will take place on Jan. 31.
