Sportsmanship, determination, and skill highlight 3D 3rd Annual Baseball Tournament

Eleven teams participated in the 3D 3rd Annual Baseball Tournament, held at the ball diamonds in Sioux Lookout from August 5 – 6, during this year’s Blueberry Festival.
The annual slow-pitch baseball tournament concluded with companionship and benevolence bringing together teams from Atikokan, Dryden, Constance Lake, Eagle Lake, Gull Bay, Kenora, Lac Seul, Mishkeegogamang, Sioux Lookout, Slate Falls, and Thunder Bay.
In the A-Side Championship, the Dump Bear defeated the Sliders 17-7.
In the B-Side Championship, the Yellow Jackets beat the Jager Bombs 19-3.
In the C-Side Championship, Four Winds defeated the Dirt Devils 13-8.
Event organizer Caroline Ignace-Spade, also a member of the Four Winds team, praised Merek McKay from Four Winds for his impressive left field skills, highlighting a remarkable catch during a crucial moment.
Ignace-Spade stated of this year’s tournament, “It was a great showmanship of athletes all around.” Marjorie Benson, observed the action as a spectator and was present when McKay made the memorable catch. Benson complimented McKay’s amazing abilities and emphasized the importance of teaching these young players discipline, “and they will continue to be amazing, talented players.”
Ignace-Spade added, that the tournament’s competitiveness made for captivating games. She noted that the outcome could have been different due to the tight competition. The Sliders tied the Yellow Jackets in the round robin game, and the Yellow Jackets narrowly lost to the Dump Bears in the knockout round.
Ignace-Spade concluded, “The spirit of sportsmanship, determination, and skill shone through the tournament, culminating in a series of thrilling matches.”
