Timberwolves, Warriors bring hardware home

The Pelican Falls First Nations High School (PFFNHS) junior girls’ volleyball team, the Sioux North High School (SNHS) junior girls’ volleyball team, and the SNHS senior boys’ basketball team all earned silver medals during the NORWOSSA (Northwestern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association) ‘A’ and ‘AA’ division championships.
The Timberwolves earned silver, with Rainy River High School winning gold, during the ‘A’ division junior girls’ volleyball championships in Atikokan on Feb. 20.
In a post, the PFFNHS Facebook page shared, “PFFNHS is so proud of the junior girls volleyball team for their 2nd place finish at the NORWOSSA championship games today. We are all so excited to see their silver medals! Congrats to Rainy River for their gold medal win and to Atikokan for their third place finish.”
The Warriors junior girls’ volleyball team took on the Dryden High School Eagles during the ‘AA’ division championships in Fort Frances on Feb. 24, which saw the Warriors take home silver and the Eagles earn gold.
In a post, the SNHS Facebook page shared, “Congratulations to the Junior Girls Volleyball team on their NorWossa silver medal! #gowarriors #siouxnorthpride.”
The Warriors senior boys’ basketball team had a ‘AA’ division championship matchup against the Fort Frances High School Muskies. The Warriors earned silver, with the Muskies edging them 61-54 in a tight back-and-forth battle.
In a post, the SNHS Facebook page shared, “Congrats to the Senior Boys basketball team on their NorWossa silver medal! #warriors #siouxnorthpride.”
The SNHS mixed curling team participated in the NORWOSSA curling championships on Feb. 9 and 10 in Kenora. The Warriors, Muskies, and Red Lake Rams all had 2-2 records, but the Warriors finished in third due to the tiebreaking procedure.
