Tribute poem
Author Elaine M Barr, a former Sioux Lookout resident and police officer for 12 years, returned to Sioux Lookout on August 27 as part of the Northern Ontario book signing tour for her newest book, Blame It On Betty.
While in Sioux Lookout, Barr presented Out of the Cold Board Chair Roy Dedon and Out of the Cold Executive Director Susan Barclay with special gift.
“The subject in this poem (included in her book Blame It On Betty) was a friend of mine and he was a regular attendant at the Out of the Cold shelter and this is about him and our journey together. I put it on a wall hanging and it’s going to Out of the Cold.”
Barclay shared, “This fellow was one of our very, very first guests at the shelter and stayed with us for many, many years. He’s passed on now and we think of him all the time. This is just going to bring his memory alive again and share it with the other folks around the shelter.”
Out of the Cold continues to operate out of its temporary location at the former Queen Elizabeth District High School.
