Warm, extremely dry October in Sioux Lookout, new temperature records set at beginning of November

A warmer than average October in Sioux Lookout with only a trace amount of precipitation according to Environmental Canada.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Gerald Cheng shared that the average mean temperature for the month of October in Sioux Lookout was 5.5 degrees °C. The normal average mean temperature for the month he said is 4.2 °C. The hottest day recorded in Sioux Lookout this past October was 23 °C on Oct. 11.
While Sioux Lookout would normally receive approximately 70.9 mm of precipitation during the month of October, this year, Cheng said Sioux Lookout received only a trace amount of precipitation.
“No system really pushed through the area and also we’ve had quite a few high pressures that really stopped any huge amounts of precipitation from moving over the area,” he said.
Sioux Lookout set new temperature records on Nov. 2 and 3.
On Nov. 2, Sioux Lookout set a new temperature record of 20.9 °C, breaking the old record of 15.1 °C set in 1978.
On Nov. 3, Sioux Lookout set another new temperature record of 15.9 °C, breaking the old record of 14.8 °C set in 2008.
Cooler temperatures moved into the area at the end of last week, much closer to November’s average mean temperature in Sioux Lookout, which is -4.9 °C.
The Sioux North High School Warriors defeated the Dryden High School Eagles 11-2 in a boys hockey exhibition game on Nov. 5 at the Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena.
