A new Wednesday night activity for community members to enjoy got rolling on June 29.
Rollerskate Nights will take place every Wednesday at the Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The activity is free for Recreation Centre members. Non-members can also be a part of the activity by paying a drop-in fee of $7.98 for adults, $5.58 for Seniors or $5.19 for youth.
Participants will need to bring their own roller skates or rollerblades/inline skates.
Rony Chakraborty, Municipal Recreation and Culture Department Manager said, “Having a Program Coordinator as part of our team really helps in coming up with new and fun activities for all age groups, and having a qualified and versatile individual like Micah Hesman, adds more value and input to the planning. These new programs and activities under Micah’s planning and direction have been attracting more people to the Recreation Centre and making participation fun.”
He added, “We would request the participants to keep safety precautions. This program will run tentatively until early August when we put the ice in.”
Micah Hesman, Program Coordinator, added, “My goal is to create programs and events that the people of Sioux Lookout would like to participate in.”
Speaking to another new activity for ages 16 and up taking place at 9 p.m. on July 8 at Baseball Diamond B, Hesman shared, “Ultimate Frisbee Under the Lights is an active and socially inclusive event that gives anyone who’s interested a fun way to spend their Summer Friday evening. It is a one-time event, but if there is a positive turn out we will have more events like these.”
