Fire which destroyed church under investigation in Kasabonika Lake First Nation

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) is investigating a fire that destroyed Kasabonika Lake First Nation’s community church.
NAPS informed that one of its on-duty officers observed a fire at the church before 7 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11.
“Community firefighters responded to the blaze with a water truck in an attempt to extinguish the fire. Despite those fire suppression efforts, the church was completely lost to the fire,” NAPS shared.
Members of the NAPS Criminal Investigations Branch, and police working out of the Kasabonika Lake First Nation detachment, are now involved in the continued investigation.
The fire is being treated as a possible case of arson. NAPS informed that no arrests have been made at this time.
