Local snowmobile trails not quite ready to ride

Snowmobilers will have to wait a bit longer to head out on local snowmobile trails.
“With such a late start to our winter season, we are just starting to stake the lakes, as we are seeing anywhere between 10 - 13 inches of good ice on the marked trail. With the poor snow conditions, the land trails have very little snow and have not been open as of yet,” shared Ojibway Power Toboggan Association (OPTA) President Dean Osmond.
The OPTA is responsible for between 250-300 kilometers of trail.
Trail passes can be purchased at www.ofsc.on.ca.
“This year there are numerous ice ridges. Please ride with caution when on the lakes especially off the marked trail,” Osmond shared.
He added, “The club has acquired a smaller, lighter groomer this year called a Snow Rabbit. With the warmer weather we have been experiencing over the last couple of seasons, we requested a second groomer for our club. This will allow the club to get the groomer out on the lakes sooner, as it will require less ice to operate.”
People are invited to check out the Ojibway Power Toboggan Association Facebook page for trail updates.
