Public tip results in drug charges in Sioux Lookout

A tip from the public and subsequent investigation by police has resulted in drug charges being laid against an individual from Fort Severn First Nation.
Ontario Provincial Police shared in a March 13 media release that, “On March 11, 2025, the Sioux Lookout detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a tip that an individual was trafficking drugs at the Jeremiah McKay Kabayshewekamik Hostel, in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, Ontario.
“The investigation has resulted in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of suspected illicit substances including opioids, cocaine and crack cocaine. Canadian currency and items associated with drug trafficking were also seized.”
A 46-year-old of Fort Severn First Nation individual has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) with:
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs - two counts
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Cocaine
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
