A $7,500 donation from the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) on May 8 to the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation will be used to subsidize the purchase of a new Mega Code Kid manikin for the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC).
SLMHC Clinical Nurse Educator Rob Martin said this new manikin will help him better teach nurses and physicians PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). “The current mannequin we have now is quite old and is quite limited for the types of skills it can be used for. The new one will have capabilities such as Intubation, Defibrillation, Cardioversion, IV access as well as Intraosseous access. This will make our simulations much more realistic for the course and for other training opportunities,” he shared.
Held in honour of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, National Nursing Week, which ran from May 6 to 12, is designed to increase the awareness of the many contributions nursing makes to the well-being of Canadians.
The donation is part of the RBC Foundation’s overall $6 million commitment this year for reskilling, upskilling, and improving the resiliency of nurses and healthcare workers at Canadian hospitals across the country.
“As we navigate changing and emerging healthcare challenges, we at RBC believe that investing in the development and upskilling of nurses is critical to improving the quality of patient care and patient outcomes,” said Kim Ulmer, RBC Regional President. We’re honoured to continue to support our resilient and compassionate healthcare workers who take care of us in our deepest times of need.”
Melissa Slade, Donor Relations/Operations Coordinator, SLMHC commented, “On behalf of the SLMHC Foundation, I would like to express sincere gratitude to RBC for their generosity and commitment to support our healthcare workers. Their acknowledgment of ongoing training importance is much appreciated and this donation will allow additional opportunities for continued learning and development of front line staff at SLMHC.”
