Citing “ongoing delays with our contractors and suppliers” the Municipality of Sioux Lookout has advised that it has been forced to extend its closure of the Recreation Centre “until further notice.”
The Recreation Centre has been closed to the public since June 10 to allow renovations to be completed.
“We recognize that these delays are an inconvenience for our customers, but we must hold the contractors and suppliers accountable to deliver the quality products we agreed to under contract. Our community deserves excellent value for these investments which will enhance our facility and user experience,” the Municipality of Sioux Lookout shared in an Aug. 21 media release, further sharing, “We are taking swift action to rectify the situation. Our priority is to ensure that once the facility reopens, it is safe, fully functional, and up to the high standards our community deserves.”
The Municipality is advising that the Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena and Recreation Centre Lobby will be open for ice programming as of September 9th, despite the ongoing closure of the Fitness Centre.
“Additionally, membership packages are currently available for pickup by new and existing members. These packages will provide details about the new procedures for accessing the facility, as well as other important information on how to use our amenities. Members are welcome to stop in any time Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to pick up their membership package and help expedite their first visit back to our facility when it re-opens,” the Municipality advised.
The Municipality had also advised on social media that existing memberships will remain frozen until the facility fully reopens.
“The Municipality of Sioux Lookout sincerely apologizes for the additional delays and appreciates your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges. We will keep you updated on the progress and provide an estimated reopening date as soon as possible,” the Municipality stated.
