Report From Parliament Hill
Eric Melillo, MP, Kenora Riding
Dear constituents
I enjoyed spending time in the riding meeting with constituents. I had the honour of attending the Vimy Ridge Banquet & Awards celebration hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 in Dryden. This year marks 106 years since the Battle of Vimy Ridge. The Battle was a defining moment for Canada in its early years after Confederation and was a decisive victory won by our brave Canadian soldiers in World War I. May we always remember the 3,600 Canadian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during this battle. We are forever grateful to those who have served, or are currently serving, in our armed forces. Lest we forget.
Standing up against Bill C-11
Recently, Bill C-11 came back to the House of Commons. This bill opens the door for government to determine what content Canadians can view and listen to online. It will also harm digital creators by limiting their ability to reach global audiences. It is an unacceptable attack on the freedoms of individual internet users in Canada. Instead of showing you to the things you want to view, it will direct you to the things the government wants you to view.
I was proud to vote alongside my Conservative colleagues against this reckless policy. A Conservative government will repeal Bill C-11, pass legislation requiring large streaming services to invest more into producing Canadian content, and will protect the individual rights and freedoms of Canadians.
