Season of steady improvement for Warriors Girls Hockey Team

It has been a season of steady improvement for the Sioux North High School Warriors Girls Hockey Team according to Head Coach/Trainer Dale McGill.
Although the team was defeated 9-0 by the visiting Fort Frances High School Muskies on Feb. 8 at the Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena, McGill said she was proud of her team’s effort.
“I think we surprised Fort Frances. They weren’t expecting that level of play from us, all the practice and hard work these girls have been putting in is showing in the last few games. They had two solid periods against them and then I think we ran out of gas. Most teams have four lines, we have 2.5-3 lines so we run out of steam toward the end.”
The match was the team’s last home game of the season. The Warriors Girls Hockey Team will play their final game of the season on Friday in Kenora against the St. Thomas Aquinas High School Saints.
Looking back on the season, McGill shared, “It’s been a tough season for the girls, it’s hard to stick with it and not quit when you are not winning. It feels like you’re not having any success. They might not realize it but if they were to look at where we were as a team and individually at the beginning of the season and compare it to now, we are leaps and bounds ahead of where we were.”
The 4th place Warriors will take on the first place Muskies in playoff action on Feb. 23 in Fort Frances.
