Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce promoting local shopping this holiday season
Tim Brody - Editor
The holiday season is upon us and as people are shopping for the special people in their lives, the Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce is encouraging people to shop local.
The Chamber is hosting a Moonlight Market this Friday evening (Nov. 24) from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Upper Legion Hall with 17 vendors participating. (See the ad in this week’s edition of The Sioux Lookout Bulletin for the full list of participating vendors.)
Also Friday evening from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., some local businesses in the downtown core are taking part in a Mini Moonlight Madness event. These include Cheers! Flowers & Gifts, The Red Brick Café, The Hub Collective, McTaggarts, and Kolors Hair Design.
The following day, on Saturday, Nov. 25, the Chamber will kick off its Christmas Countdown, a new initiative this year taking the place of the traditional Moonlight Madness event.
Starting on Saturday, look for a list on the Chamber’s Facebook page of local businesses offering great offers and special sales each day during the Christmas season.
People can find out more, and businesses can let the Chamber know about days they are offering promotions, by calling 807-737-1937 or emailing [email protected].
Chamber Treasurer Christine Hoey explained, “Since COVID happened, a lot of things have changed. A lot of the businesses are short staffed, and so for the last couple of years we’ve been trying to figure out how we can re-work Moonlight Madness.”
“Starting on the 25th of November, we’re saying, “Please shop local,” she added.
The Christmas Countdown calendar will also feature Chamber related events taking place during the holiday season, such as Sioux Lookout’s Santa Claus Parade, which is taking place on Dec. 10.
Being organized by The Chamber and The Sioux Lookout Fire Department, the parade will get underway at 5 p.m., starting at the former Queen Elizabeth District High School.
The parade will follow its traditional route, starting at the corner of Third Avenue and Fair Street, travelling south down Third Avenue to Front Street, heading west across Front Street to Sixth Avenue, then proceeding North to the Fresh Market Foods parking lot.
Anyone wishing to register a float for the parade can call or email the Chamber office.
